"You are a man who lives in constant fear that one day, his wife will find someone better..."

John's best friend Charlie has it right he's developed a constant sense of paranoia that gorgeous Courtney is being unfaithful. That paranoia has already threatened to end his marriage once, but now with the arrival of one of Courtney's old college friends, it bubbles up yet again.

This time, though, John feels differently about the suspicions that Courtney is seeing another man. Firstly, he feels more certain about them being true -- but secondly, he comes to realize that it turns him on to think of her cheating on him...

The first collaboration between the masters of the hotwife genre, Max Sebastian and Kenny Wright, a scorching hot rollercoaster of a ride...

I'm not a fan of collaborations as often the authors are being so careful to make their two different writing styles work together that the narrative gets lost and becomes a bit of a mess. This didn't really happen here as these two authors writing styles are quite complimentary and the narrative stayed reasonably focused but just because the book avoided the two major pitfalls that can cause collaborations to fail doesn't mean it worked well either. Sebastian's (despite his protests to the contrary) tastes run to the cuckold side of the spectrum whilst Kenny Wright has been more of a classic romantic hotwife author and the mix of these two hasn't really succeeded. The characters are implausible and one dimensional stereotypes with your standard Max Sebastian style idiotic angst consumed husband who cannot even cope with his own shadow making an appearance yet again (his male characters are pretty much always the same) teaming up with the standard fare beautiful and smart (this ones a doctor! ...lol) wife who yet again in typical Sebastian style is quite a selfish and manipulative type. Throw in a utter lack of open communication between the couple and a stereotypical studly ex-boyfriend and it's just cliche layered upon cliche. The plot is driven more towards Sebastian's cuckold leanings rather then Wrights more couples focused approach and frankly there isn't much to comment on. It simply proceeds as you might expect. Both of these authors are good writers so the book is by no means awful however with all that writing talent in one book and some recent very unconventional takes on the genre I wasn't expecting it to be so bland and by the numbers. I think it's a case of too many cucks in the kitchen.

Out of His League A Hotwife Novel Max Sebastian Kenny Wright 9781542589192 Books Reviews

I like the works of each of these writers very much. That said, I liked this particular story rather than loved it. John and Courtney are deeply committed to each other. That baseline brings a definitely sweetness and safety to the story. They are clearly respectful as they explore old "kinks" and work their ways through new ones.

Probably the most interesting character developed here is Harry. We don't learn a lot about him but there are some interesting dips, in surprising ways, in to what he thinks, and how he views, the hot wife scene and the people who live it.

Kenny Wright in particular has described his writings as closer to the hot wife side and further from the cuckold side of the spectrum and this carries through here. This makes for a nice story with hot moments. My own preferences go toward a bit more darkness along the path (I would have written a Courtney that was a little less gentle, for example) and that explains why I liked this story rather than being passionate about it.

(Note it is important to me that editing and proofreading are not a distraction. I give OOHL a 4.8 there.)
First, during the past several weeks I have been reading titles in this sub-genre from the ocean of authors available on and it is refreshing to come back to these two writers who are hands down my favorites. They are in a higher league than other authors out there.
Second, I have always been intrigued by the theme of the wife coaxing the husband. Maybe she's more experienced or maybe she just knows what makes her husband tick so well she takes the lead and slowly and teasingly convinces him (the typical genesis story in this genre usually involves the husband convincing the reluctant wife and having control over the situation). This story involves, to some extent, the former female-led situation. The difficulty in such a scenario is for the wife (and the husband) to be likeable. That is going to be an issue for some in this story with Courtney and maybe John. Maybe a double-standard? I find these situations inherently more fascinating (maybe because of the possible double standard making it more taboo?).
Third, I have read everything I could get my hands on by these two authors and I think this was an awesome collaboration and that their styles do compliment each other. I felt like at most times I could tell which author's contribution I was reading. I hope to see more collaborations between these two.
I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the elements of cheating and involvement of Harry (and ex with possibly more than a physical involvement). Those themes are a put off to me. Otherwise this work is "Major League" material!
If you enjoy reading a book where the main characters have the following attributes/character flaws, you should enjoy this book.
John - the husband and lead male character is an insecure, parinoid, wimp who is married to a successful, beyond beautiful Playboy material doctor who has a very dubious past, let's just say she was a slut in college. John is so worried his wife will cheat on him he talks her into having sex with her old college go to guy, a hunk named Harry. Did you get that? Here it is again, John doesn't want to lose Courtney, so he allows her to do whatever she wants sexually so he can keep her. John is a total wimp who has no desire to prove he's the king of his castle for fear of running his wife into the arms of another man. I know, I don't get this guy either.
Courtney- the wife plays off of John's insecurities with the full knowledge of knowing exactly what she is doing and what she is driving him towards. One could argue she wanted to have sex with Harry and knew exactly how to manipulate John into allowing her to do so. Apparently a skill she learned and perfected in college that she was now using on her husband. I didn't like nor did I connect with any of the characters, who could.

Having said all of this, I find I hate these books enough to keep reading them time after time. I'll get mad at a character like John, because he's a wimp being manipulated by his "Hotwife" and I swear I'll never read another one, but the truth is, these books grab something in me others don't. I feel the angst and paranoia felt by John and in some morose way, I find myself draw to this genre time and time again, plus did I mention the sex is really hot. These are books I love to hate, written by 2 of the best.
